EDS / BURN PATIENTS MADE TO-MASURE COMPRESSION GARMENTS

NOVATEX MEDICAL compression garments are tailor-made for patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and for burn victims. These garments are Class I medical devices and may be reimbursed with a medical prescription. They are regulated healthcare products and carry the CE mark. Please read the instructions carefully before use.

What is EDS

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is an inherited genetic disorder of the connective tissue that makes up around 80% of the human body. As a result, the condition impacts nearly all organs.
Key characteristics of EDS include hypermobility, joint fragility, hyper-elasticity and skin and tissue fragility, leading to impaired proprioception.

Proprioception is the body’s ability to perceive its position, movements, and physical constraints through receptors located in the connective tissue.
In EDS, these receptors are altered and either fail to send information to the nervous system or transmit it incorrectly. As a result, the brain receives inaccurate signals, which explains the difficulty patients have in sensing and coordinating their movements in space.

The aim of compression garments is precisely to improve proprioception by applying pressure to the skin and soft tissues (muscles, tendons), thereby enhancing sensory feedback.

What about burn victims?

A burn is an injury to the skin or mucous membranes caused by exposure to intense heat or by contact with a physical or chemical agent. Burns result in a loss of the skin’s protective barrier. This breach must be repaired either naturally through spontaneous healing, or surgically via skin grafts.

Compression garments are used after the epithelialization phase of deep second and third-degree wounds, once the epidermis has stabilized.

Tailor-made compression garments for burn patients aim to help reorganize collagen fibers to prevent disorganized scarring of the connective tissue. They help reduce unsightly scars and limit the formation of dysfunctional contractures.
