The HOPLON shield is a protective device developed with the assistance of healthcare professionals to accommodate individuals with psychiatric disabilities experiencing behavioral crises. It is used when verbal de-escalation attempts have failed.
The shield allows caregivers to protect themselves from hetero-aggressive actions while maintaining visual contact with the patient, ensuring they do not injure themselves.
Modular and covering a large surface area, the shield can be used to partition spaces, thereby immediately securing a group of individuals from an agitated person. It facilitates de-escalation before considering, if necessary, more invasive interventions under calmer conditions.
When such interventions are required, the HOPLON can also be used as a support for horizontal physical restraint, making the experience feel less restrictive and more comfortable for the patient.
